Yes the Quattroworld allroad forum as all forums, is an extremely valuable
tool!
The majority of the problem with the allroad forum on QW is they are all
extremely enamored with the allroad height ADJUSTMENT system, and/or the TIP
trans and can't see past the expense of these cars! Yeah rip off the
airbags, that's a solution, but pretty expensive and totally negates the
entire function of the car and it's resale!
The KO3s are extremely problematic, they appear to be unable to breathe
properly, so the replacement of KO3s are not the solution, KO4s are the fix
($3K, pretty close to replacement KO3s), so how far do you go to keep this
from happening again..and that's where I'm at with the my allroad.
So how does one make a car breathe better, there's all the standard stuff,
exhaust systems EMs DPs entire systems ($3-4000), and intake systems and
it's a ton of pipes, like 6-8 ($600-1000), and get the intake cooler.that's
as we all know ICs ($1800). Then there's the fueling although there's a
group of guys on the AR forum that say the fueling isn't totally necessary,
but if you are going for it you can do the fueling anytime and that's MAF,
new injectors, and ECU upgrades ($800-1200). And if you've ever driven an
RS2ed 95 Avant you know that stock brakes even the allroad's are not up too
the task of stopping an upgraded AR. And the stock clutch isn't up to an
upgraded KO4 setup, well maybe if you baby it, but in MHO it isn't up to the
stock KO3s
So you guys do the math!
And unless you're pretty handy with a wrench you will probably have to have
someone do the replacement. That's been quoted a number of times at the min
of 25 hours shop time! One guy on the forum has had his car in a shop doing
this exact system replacement I described with KO4s for about two weeks.how
many hours do ya suppose that is??
So an ECU upgrade to replacement KO3s in MHO isn't enough of a fix!
The C5 chassis is a marvelous car to drive, it's extremely comfortable and
the Quattro system is marvelous as with all Audis. I've gotta say the heated
seats are HOT, and the heated steering wheel is fantastic!
I've got an insurance settlement coming from my S6A accident and as soon as
I can I'm gonna get another S6A, pimp it out, and ditch the AR, unless I get
stuck with the turbo replacement, as I'm already compiling all the intake
pipes and ICs from folks selling on Audifans and QW and audizine, and will
replace those when I have to do the KO4s, if it comes to that, then I'll
keep it:-) Or I'll sell it all to an astute buyer with the car!
Wanna buy mine??

If my allroad had been a 6spd I'd have kept it, ditched the air springs and
gone to coilovers, done APR software and better pads in the HP2 calipers and
left it alone. The C5 chassis is more kind to stock turbos, and upgrading to
K04s would have probably been my course of action although I never really
researched it much. Once I realized how prone to failure the torque
converters are I traded it. BTW, not to "shoo you away,(and you my have
already found them)" but the allroad forums on QW are fantastic and loaded
with helpful people and info.
Best o' luck with it. I'd take another one in a hearbeat.
