[s-cars] Winter weight oil recommendations, temporarily seized brake caliper.....

If all these suggested tests do not yield a culprit, check your starter condition, but do the prescribed first - this would be a last resort.

I chased what seemed to be a charging condition on my Ford F250 diesel - my starter was deteriorating over a couple of years. The symptoms imitated a charging issue - slow crank. Luckily it gave up the ghost altogether - when replaced, it was amazing how well the truck started...even in the cold.

Considering that viscosity breakdown in oil generally results in the oil getting thinner, you don't have to worry about it getting thicker.

I doubt that 0W40 oil is going to cause issues for you, that's pretty thin stuff. With an AAN, I would look at electrical connections being corroded or a failing CPS. I'm sure Scott will correct me if I'm wrong.
