[s-cars] Need a brake rotor

To answer the specific question, Lee, yes, Pep Boys will have access to several quality brake rotor brands. The question will be what they have in stock may not be the best, but other FLAPS in your Podunk should also have something.

As with many posts here, there are more questions raised than what you have asked. The Bentley repair manual will have bold type notes on every brake page cautioning to only replace
pads or rotors in pairs. This note will be on every make/model vehicle repair manual that I know of. Since you have outed your mech for violating a basic caution for brake repair, are you going to hang on this “recently replaced” job as an exception that allows you to ignore the repair manual?

Replacing a caliper may also disturb the emergency brake cable balance and require adjustment there as well. This is assumed to be rapid rotor wear, because ignoring a badly worn rotor and only repairing the other side would be closer to malfeasance than neglect. The usual cause is a sticking or misadjusted emergency brake cable causing one caliper to stay engaged. The drag on the wheel may not be noticeable at urban speeds, only creating enough smoke to raise the alarm at highway speeds. The operator failing to release the parking brake completely could also be a cause that might not require further repair.

Well, since it is Monday before I get the digest, this is already OBE, but it may point to a question or two for your mech.

Good luck with the repairs.

Tom
