Thanks Tom, you do bring up a couple of interesting points.
Yes, the rear brake pads/rotors should have been replaced as pairs. Not sure
why we didn¹t do thatmy mechanic is generally conservative from a budget
standpoint if it ain¹t broke, don¹t replace it. He¹s also a stickler for
safety, so it¹s something I¹ll bring up with him when I pick the car up
later today.
Speaking of which, I decided to spend my time elsewhere yesterday afternoon
priming new skim coat in our main bathroom. While a rear pad/rotor swap is
pretty straightforward, I¹ve never done it before, and I wasn¹t sure I could
get the right parts. With family in from out of town, and the bathroom
needing a prime, I didn¹t want to risk getting into a problem on the car. If
the caliper was frozen, I would not have been able to replace it. Also, my
daughter would be leaving on a 200 mile drive as soon as the job was done,
not optimal following a first time job on a safety item.
So I punteddropped the car off last night, will be picking it up later
today and driving it to NY tomorrow.
