... while it is not likely I would end up doing the mod myself, I can see
the motivation to do so on the cars that were imported to the USA.  Parts
are getting more and more difficult to come by and considerably more
expensive too!  

In effect what you would be doing is simplifying the hydraulic system so
that it becomes a simple power steering setup ... like the GT Coupe, with
the vacuum boosted brakes like the Coupe too.  The reason Audi installed the
hydraulic brake assist is because you can't always count on a supply of
vacuum on a boosted engine, but you can solve that problem with an auxiliary
vacuum pump (as other marques did to for turbocharged engines).  Think about
it ... no more valve body ... no more bomb and no more pressure switches to
leak ... 

As I write this post I am starting to wonder if I shouldn't go ahead and do
this too ... I know my brake booster is seeping into the passenger
compartment ... anyone have any recommendations for vacuum pumps?
