I've found that just about every VWAG product since around 1993 needs all the underhood vacuum lines replaced by about 5 years of age- the V6's are the worst, but the same can be found on most 1.8t's. This isn't common to VWAG either- later model MBZ's have developed similar problems. I have a theory that all the plastic engine covers don't allow heat to dissipate quickly enough from the manifold area, which may accelerate the deterioration of the rubber. Just an idea... We probably see 1 car a week with the check engine light on due to a vacuum leak that can be traced to this problem.
