These cars will always be a labor of love Ken. If we were rational we'd stay
away from them entirely. But if you've already been bitten by the bug, I can
give you some advice based on the accquistion and maintenance of my own car.

Mine had bad body rust on (actually, more like "through") the front fenders
at the A-pillar. I was lucky enough to find a set of OEM ones in the states
for cheap (they were still $1000 by the time I'd shipped them). I don't have
any other rust issues (it was stored for a long time, but indoors) save a
couple of rock chips and the trunk hatch (which can still be found).

The question that you may want to start with is this: Do you want a
concours-winning all-original garage queen or are you more interested in
driving in that maintaining all-original parts?

There are some NLA parts with these cars that can be a pain, but as far as I
know, it is limited to:

Ball joints
Tie-rod ends (though I thought I saw Blau selling reconditioned ones)
Dash board
F/TCU and ICU

I don't think but the last one is a huge issue. I managed to find ball
joints here in the US, and I think a worst case is either a) buy from Europe
or b) engineer your own. The dash board can be replaced with one from a
later 4kq or CGT, which is actually a nice upgrade from the original. I'm
converting my car to EFI, which I have about $1700 into, and I'll probably
be right at $2000.00 when it's all said and done.

Between the two cars you've mentioned, definitely go with the one with less
rust. I would not worry about the electrical systems too much, they can be
problematic, but there is a TON of experience with those issues on this
list.

I would pursue the question of whether they start or not. They are both
low-mileage, so the engines should be in good shape. I guess it all depends
on what the seller wants to get for them.
