Dear Audifans:

One of the listers called Mr Shelby a good marketing
guy.

Hmmmm he was made famious by racing and winning in
europe, winning at Lemans, building 289 cobras, then
427 cobras and then kicking everyone in the world's
butt in the Daytona Coupe including Porsche Ferrari
and anyone else you care to mention.

He remains the only american car builder to win the
FIA GT championships.  I don't think that was all
marketing.

He was very popular before the mustang even hit the
show rooms.  The Hertz mustang did little for his
fame.
