.... on that car there was an auxiliary electric vacuum pump that ensured there
was ample reserve ... certainly a similar scheme could be fitted to an Audi
should the owner be worried about a loss of assist.  

I've got an idea ... use a spare pneumatic lock bi-pressure pump!  (joking of
course!)

Your idea is indeed what almost all the European manufacturers do with their
diesel cars... a pump that depressurizes the vacuum booster.

Anyone has more technical knowledge about this ?
