Looking for a six speed are you
Or a 01E with the shorter fifth maybe ?
BTDT .... sorta .
I've installed a 7A combined with a CBL 6 spd in an '86 coupe quattro .
Same body as the Ur , but without the enlarged fenders and with a modest
136Hp stock .
Much like the US GT , but in europe we got the quattro version .
Shift linkage is custom made , and it's the hardest part of the
transformation .
A few bits from the original linkage , a few bits from the UR-S4
and a lot of custom machining and welding .
Took me 3 day's of crawling in and under the car to get it right .
But it fit's and works perfcetly . Space is very limited , but
I insisted to make no modifications whatsoever to the tunnel or car body .
Reverse gear engagement protection works as it should .
Reverse is up and left , right next to the first gear instead of down and
right as in
the 016 gearboxes . So we don't want to accidently put it in reverse .
And all interior trim fits as it was before .
Except for the six spd shiftknob I installed :) nothing indicates the car
has a six speed installed .
Car's on the road for two years now , so I guess I can say it's succesful .
:)
