L-A,
I think most of the basics have been covered. If the heater control valve is
not leaking and OS functioning properly, then I suspect a bad connection
somewhere.
The heater core is the highest point in your engine cooling system. If air
pockets develop (at lower engine speeds), that is where they end up. Your
hearing is not deceiving you. Recheck your hose connections and definitely
recheck your heater control valve. As they get old they tend to leak, and
don't like to be moved around when replacing the heater core. Of course, if
you already replaced the valve then ignore that suggestion.
Good luck.

Thinking of it, Mike, i'm not sure I did the cables and flap thing
perfectly. That would explain the heat issue at high speed. Will check that
today.
Keith, I'll check also the pipes, might explain the noise if the heater core
is "directional" flow-wise.
Steeve, how come an air pocket be there for such a long period ? I'm
puzzled.
The heater valve in the engine compartment is OK, I already checked it.
