I thought you said 5 deg C which is not cold....sometimes the metal contacts
in the switches shrink when its real cold 5F is cold, and cause intermittent
contact, however if your cabin was warm the horn switch shouldn't have that
occur

Actually - no snow/ice buildup - it was bone dry.  We only have a few inches
of snow - and being so cold it was very dry snow....

I'm going to check the horn button and go from there.

Was there some ice-pack around the wires causing it to short out and honk?

Maybe the insulation on that old wiring decided to break away rather than
flex in the cold?
