[V6-12v] AC question

I want to wade in on this conversation very carefully as my AC is not
working and I have been thinking about this for a while.

>From what I have read the Compressor kicks off in response to the thermistor
on or near the evaporator. It turns off in order not to freeze the
evaporator. But I am not sure what it is suppose to do  with the AC off. I
know many cars use the AC to take moisture out of the air when using the
windshield defrost function. The other important thing to know is whether
the cars have climate control . I think it will control the compressor etc
differently. Mine is a manual control and when I put the Ac on the
compressor runs a 100% duty cycle  ( never disengages clutch ) . I think
that would mean that the sensor on the evaporator never gets cold enough and
would be indicitive of my no cold condition. I would believe the manual
systems like mine just run the compressor full tilt and the temp control is
acheived by just mixing in warmer air via the knob on the dash that controls
the flapper. The only time the AC clutch would disengage is when the sensor
tells it to. Lino , if you want to get together to do some comparisons ,
just let me know , I am in Cambridge and I am often looking for an excuse to
go for a ride !
