that would be safe, it does not really ever dry hard, you just need a way
to hold it where it is supposed to be for a few hours so it can dry and stay
there

your talking about the leather/vinyl covering, right ?? its kinda all
glued/melted/fused onto the foam padding underneath.

It's on the passenger side, so I'm not too concerned ;-)
How was this fastened in the first place? It had to be glued, with
something like contact cement.
