[V6-12v] Autocheck sound failure in 95 A6 Avant

I hate that damn chime. I had an Audi 5000 with every electronic gizmo
conceivable in 1985 at one point. One of these gizmos was the auto-check
system. Every time I turned the high beams on, it would beep at me because
it thought the bulb was burnt out even though it wasn't. I got used to it
after a while, but it would freak out my passengers on a regular basis.

My "new" 2006 Golf GTI beeps at every possible opportunity. Mostly, it's OK,
though. I don't mind one beep if a yellow warning (low gas, low washer
fluid, etc) comes on. But the constant seat belt chime drives me nuts. I
feel uncomfortable NOT wearing the seat belt so I really don't need the
warning. The excessive beeping also makes me miss important warnings -- like
recently when the check-engine light turned on and I barely noticed because
it didn't beep at me... I hope it beeps more aggressively if the oil
pressure light turns on...
