I just did a blower motor and heater core replacement in my V8. It only
took me about 20 minutes to get the heater box "out far enough" to be able
to replace just the blower motor. It took a good bit more work to figure
out how to get the box all the way out so I could separate it to get to the
heater core.
The key learning points for me were:
1. Don't put the center windshield wiper mounting bolt back in it's hole
after you remove the wiper ass'y. You need that room.
2. Pop the A/C line up out of it's hole in the firewall and zip-tie it to
the strut brace so that the entire line is on the other side of the firewall
across the heater box.
3. Zip tie the two thick wiring bundles that cross the corner of the heater
box to the strut brace too.
4. Use a bent hacksaw or saber saw blade to cut through the gasket in the
rain tray.
5. Don't be afraid to put a pry bar on the tabs that the spring clips use
to keep the 2 halves of the box together. They're plenty strong.
If I knew how easy it would be to get the box out far enough to replace just
the blower motor, I would have done it 2 years ago.
