Went to the Local Chapter Audi Club meeting last night. Held at our "new"
Audi Dealer. Audi is making a big push to separate all the VW and Audi
dealers. Some neat things coming down the pipeline. All normally aspirated
cars by 2005. No more turbo's. Had a new S4 with the 4.2 V8 stuffed in it.
WOW! 340HP, engine is 2 inches shorter, cams are chain driven, located on
the back of the engine. Couldn't see the other driven components, hopefully
mounted on the lower back of the motor, or maybe you just pull motor to
replace alternator! W8 coming to the A8 line as well as a V12. Audi will
have a Toureg platform vehicle in 2005, I think. A V10 was also mentioned
in the presentation. Had a beautiful new A8L on the floor. Short wheelbase
version coming next year. TT has a couple years left before replacement
with a new model. A3 coming to US.
There's a couple of us V8 owners in the club. Was surprised by how many did
not know of this forum. All the V8 guys are surprised how much I know about
the V8's due to the great exchange of information by this group, including
the 2 guys in this town who repair them for a living:-), one an Audi tech,
now working for VW, (new dealer owners opted for training the young blood,
not keeping the old experienced techs, not surprising, sadly), the other
runs his own independent shop and is a V8 owner.
Sure was fun to look at the new iron, see what may I may be buying 5-10
years from now!
Someone stated that the factory recommended timing belt change interval on
an RS6 is 35K! Of course if you can afford the car, what's a couple
thousand $ for a timing belt change :-).
Thanks again for all of you who have helped me with all my V8 woes.
Happy Holidays

Leaking like a stuck pig........I know these cars read the list, I'm holding
the recent rear main seal discussion responsible. I know I need to replace
all the seals, front and back and top, just been putting off the inevitable!
At least I've got the hydraulic leaks fixed.
