[V8] Engine Oil Quantity

I wonder if there is in fact two different length dipsticks?
Mine reads right at the full mark if I put in 10 qts.
At 8 qts the level is still just above the bottom plastic part of the stick.
I think mine would hold steady at 8 qts, but it is so hard to read the level 
that I usually add some to get a good reading. I am really thinking about 
shortening my dipstick tube to solve this unless I can just but a new dipstick.
