I don't own a V8, so what do I know? But from reading
this list for a long time, my rule of thumb has been it's a
$1000 job, roughly half for parts and half for labor.
Figure $400 for self-sourced) parts. Labor is 8 hours 
at $60-75/hour. So it doesn't seem out of line to me.  

If you've worked with the shop for 20 years, spend 
$5/year and give them the extra $100 to buy the parts 
for you.

That's my 2 cents.
