Dave Head made some good check-list points.  As for the t-belt,
your Audi tech mechanic friend should be able to tell, provided 
it was done at an Audi dealership.  He/she will need the VIN.

If there is no record at Audi, and the seller can't provide a receipt 
for the work, then assume it wasn't changed.  The timing belt is an 
expensive job. The older V8s are at an age when people get rid of 
them rather than spend to big bucks on the t-belt.
