If the car has the climate control panel like the 92+
100 and urs4/urs6 (which I think the later v8s do)you
can pull the codes from the climate control head. 
Hold down the recirculation button, and hit the air
flow control "up" arrow.  Then use the temp "+" and
"-" buttons to select a channel to view, and hit the
recirculation button to view the value.  A longer
description, with explanation of codes etc. can be
found on audiworld.com.  Select "tech" from the top
menu, then interior and scroll down to "unlocking the
secrets within the climate control panel".
