[V8] V8 5spd conversion...it can be done LONG!

Hey. Few members of the list asked me to post this,
so I will.

The conversion was done several weeks ago, but I've
been testing the car out to see if any problems occur
along the way so that I can post anything significant
here on the board.

I cannot post specific details here or anywhere else,
simply because there are mechanics out there that rely
on work like this to keep their businesses afloat.

Now...for the good stuff. The V8 can be converted to
a 5 speed using ANY type 44 vehicle -- 100/5000/200
quattro models. The best donor vehicle is the '91 V8
5speed. It has many advantages, including larger
input shaft, and wiring is direct fit to the automatic
V8.

If you cannot get one, my personal opinion otherwise
is to go with the '91 200q20v. I used an '87 5000q
non-turbo as my donor vehicle....I wouldn't recommend
it...driveshaft U-joint won't hold the power...shifter
bracket had to be modified....front axles no
good....clutch too small...turbo cars' rear diff has
3.89 final drive (V8 has 4.11)...list gets a bit
bigger. But, if you have to, it can be used.

YOU NEED the PT engine code flywheel from a V8 5
speed...nothing else works, dont try it.

If you do this conversion, you need 2-3 people at
LEAST! You'll need to fabricate and use your
imagination on several parts...but the 016
transmission from any of these cars, including the one
from the '92-'94 S4, and '95 S6, will bolt up directly
without modifications. Remember, the V8 Motronic WILL
NOT cause an issue, because there is no signal going
from it to the TCM. Motronic has no idea your tranny
is changed. Three people have told me that they have
done the conversion and the automatic ECU is cutting
fuel off prematurely (at around 90-100mph)....haven't
the slightest clue what they're talking about cause I
just hit 210 km/h (133mph) problem free last
night..OOPS! Dont tell anyone! ;)

You will have cruise control issues that need to be
addressed, speedometer MAY cause you problems. Clutch
slave, master cylinder, pilot and clutch release
bearings, all these items....GET THEM NEW! Don't use
the ones on your donor car...it'll be a pain to find
out these fairly affordable items cause clutch failure
and what not.

Further note, someone told me their car won't start
anymore after doing the conversion. People.....the
starter, alternator, all major engine components are
completely interchangeable. Camshaft profiles maybe
different in a V8 5spd from the automatic, regardless
it still works perfectly fine.

That's all I got right now....as for driving
impressions....I've never seen a souped integra or
civic so far behind my rear view mirrors in my life!
Smoked is an understatement. And my 4.2 V8 is stock
besides a K&N air filter. A 4.2 V8 5spd with a chip
and exhaust...you'll damn near kill yourself. That
reminds me, I gotta contact Ned Ritchie someday soon.
:D

Good luck to whoever tries this. You'll need it.
