Yup. Selling the V8. Most of you reading this list have learned that I
speak about selling my V8 often....ponder it....puzzle over it...and end up
not doing much. In fact, I have been accused of liking to talk about
selling it, but never actually do anything about it. True, so true.
But now the deal has changed. Today I am taking delivery of a new-to-me
truck, and the V8 is just deeper into the "never" drive category. It is 90%
of the time, the wrong car for whatever transportation mission needs to be
accomplished. The car is really very "right" right now, so it is a good
time for it to go.
In August, if it is unsold, it will go to the Transportation Museum in Owls
Head to their big auction, and be auctioned off. It will be sold
there...was almost sold there last year.
Almost all the little gizzies that need replacing have been replaced within
the past three months. I won't bore you all again with the gory details,
but if anyone is interested, write off list, and I'll give you the full
bloody details.
For now, the car will be offered at $8500. The price is firm, and if it
doesn't sell by mid June, the car will be entered into the Owl's Head
Auction...once the entrance fee has been paid, the die is cast, and it will
go to the auction.
And if you are about to send me an email and carp about this or that V8
being so many dollars less....yup. I know all of that, but I KNOW what is in
this car and how good it is. They really don't get much better than this
one, and I have the documentation to support it.
Once it is gone, what will I get? I dunno....what I really NEED is
something that is very simple, fairly small, and very fuel efficient to run
short errands in. Right now it looks as though I may complete the
restoration of the 91 20-valve Avant and make that a daily driver...it does
really serve the purpose well. But I also have a certain thirst for a
diesel something....maybe a Touareg or Mercedes ML with CDI when they
produce it next year....

Also: I still have the old OEM headlights out of the V8 to dispose of. One
is starred, but the reflector is intact. I have wanted $100 plus mailing,
but if someone wants them, make some sort of offer and they can go.
Otherwise they may be in the trunk of the V8 when it goes to auction. Or
worse still, just end up in the land fill......
