It isn't that bad.  Peel back the rubber boot, and splice
new wire (about 1 foot long) into the break.  Then push
the joints into the door and jamb, leaving the fresh wire
in the boot where it can flex.  You can either solder or
use crimp connectors for the butt joint splices.
