[V8] Limp Mode?

Hey Brad, been there myself. First thing to do is pull the codes using the
info found on Scott's website:
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/ecufv8.html - very easy to do
I was getting "2243 Consumption Signal" (whatever the heck that means) which
was being thrown due to the TPS not seeing a closed throttle switch. In my
case the PRND321 lights *didn't* light up; as per the manual this is 1 of 2
circumstances that selector lights all go dim (vs. all being lit).
My root cause - throttle body was filthy, not allowing the butterfly valves
to close all the way, thus not allowing the TPS to register a closed
throttle switch - the ECU / TCU never knew when I took my foot off the gas
and the car surged like when you are driving a 5-spd, are driving with your
foot into the gas, then suddenly let off w/o pushing the clutch in. This
apparently is what threw my tranny into limp-home after driving a couple of
blocks. I think I was also getting the "2121 Idle switch" code as well.
Pull the codes and let us know what you find out. :-)
Cheers,
- Jeremy

Subject: [V8] Limp Mode?
Driving to town today, I noticed the V8 was acting sluggish and think it may
have been operating in Limp Mode. I tried shifting into lower gears (I have
an automatic) but no change. I then turned the car off, restarted and drove
around the block -- it seem to be working fine.
I've heard of limp mode but never understood its cause nor function. Should
I seek immediate help from a mechanic or look for an open window in a tall
building?
Lastly, can you easily check the fluid level in the transmission? It looks
like there's only a fill port without a transmission dipstick.
Thanks,
Brad Hartman
