Hi Kneale,
Like Ingo says, tool # 10-213A is probably the
centering tool for the clutch to line up perfectly the
hole in the clutch with the hole in the pilot bearing
where the input shaft rolls. It sometimes comes with a
clutch kit.
I'm also in the middle of a clutch job, and although
in a different car, (VW Quantum Syncro--same drive
train/engine as Audi 4KQ) I believe they share some
things.
Is up to you how deep you want to get in.
Anyway, I decided to replace all seals in the tranny
while I had it out. Those included, front 1/2 drive
shafts, input shaft and shift rod seal and all
respective link bushings outside the cockpit.
I went a little further and removed the flywheel and
had it resurfaced, as it had a couple of tiny grooves
all around the clutch friction surface.
Since I took the flywheel out, also I decided to
replace both, the rear crank oil seal and oil seal
housing's seal.
Will replaced tranny mounts as well along with rebuilt
both 1/2 driveshafts since boot in one was dried and
on its way out and the other torn.
The pilot bearing came out nice and easy without much
effort with a pilot bearing puller loaner from Advance
Discount Autoparts. I believe this would work well on
your car as well becuase I thing these 5 cylinder cans
share the same pilot bearing.
As for the rest of the seals, a dremel tool and
drilling bits along with a rubber mallet, screw
drivers and hooks did the trick.
BTW, the reason for the clutch job on my QSW was also
the same; grinding TO bearing that literally fell
apart on my hand as I pulled the TO bearing housing
out of the tranny bell housing. Upon closer look, it
was missing about 1/3 of its little ball bearings.
Hang in there!!!
-Best Regards,
-Louis
