Same driver?  Cars run over the same roads?

Other thoughts: it may be a sensor, not broken but off spec,
letting one car run rich.  Tire pressures.  Dragging brakes
(especially the rears, where the emergency brake might not be
releasing fully).  AC also drags down mileage. Fuel (summer
fuel vs. winter "gas-a-hol") might account for some of it.
New plugs/wires/rotor might add to it.

It could be a lot of little things adding up to a 3-4 mpg
difference.
