[V8] Battery Drain

I've had a brand new battery in my new-to-me 200q20v for several months.
Worked perfectly for me when I ran the car long enough to drive it onto the
hoist the barn when I bought it.  It's been sitting on the hoist ever since
with the negative cable disconnected while I did the clutch replacement and
worked on some other things like an axle boot and relay harness for the
Euro lights I'm now installing.  Hooked the cable back up to test the
harness and there's no power.  Battery is dead.  Should a new battery go
dead sitting like that?  There can't be any drain with the negative cable
disconnected can there?
