Many of us have had this happen right after a t-belt job. It seems the bearing
for the oil pump does not like to play nice with a new timing belt for some
reason. The usual cure is to replace this bearing - which of course means
removing the t-belt again. It is not clear that the old bearing is really bad -
it just gets noisy.
The noise also radiates all over the motor - just to make diagnosos more fun.
You might also have a look at the damper assembly - including the friction pad.
