[V8] Engine is out!

Quick update - the tool is in fact a 12mm triple square. I bought one for
$6
The starter is down at the rebuild shop. They are going to see if
they can get the parts for it. I should know in a few days. Brushes and
solenoid should be easy. The rest of it is probably good anyway, although
I would like new bushings and a drive gear.
The guy at the shop was
pretty funny - turns out to be an Audi nut. He took a while before he
could stop correcting me about my "A8". Once it sunk in that it
IS a V8 and it HAS a V8, he told me how much he likes the type 44s, and
had a story about some - ahemm - "older gentleman" with a 700hp
200TQ. The guy is a customer of the Audi shop who helps me out.
Apparently, this is his daily driver. I bet he gets to work quick.
And - on the headers, if the bottom rear two studs (both sides)
were instead bolts, there would be no problem. Is there any reason not to
use bolts there?
I will have the head off tonight for a
real damage report. Fingers crossed. I might even get some St. Paulie Girl
to appease the Audi gods.

I use on the Mk1 VW, i.e. 12-pt. whatever mm. I'll say this

I may have also found the cause of my very slow R12 leak.
