[V8] Ball hone

Just felt like yelling....
I see some talk here about nikasil - and AFAIK, these motors are all
Alusil. I am unaware of any model year differences and the Audi
Technician training manual from I believe 1989 says they are Alusil.
You can have either technology refurbished - but it takes very
specialized equipment.
I had a link to a shop that could do it, and I believe Ron found it
as well.
All I had to do was clean out the bores (my machinist did this so I
don't know exactly what he used) and install the new rings. Since I
was mechanically in spec everywhere, I have had no problems, and oil
usage has dropped dramatically.
The one thing I did not do was change the lifters, and they are
clacking a little. Not a big deal I think but slightly irritating.
I have not driven the car too much lately but last week I took a 350
mile trip with extended driving time at 100MPH (gotta love southern
Idaho). The oil level on the dipstick did not change. My old motor
would have sucked down a 1/2 quart on that trip.
