What do you have to do
to keep a V8 happy?
As many of you know, I just put $3K into
making my motor good as new. It runs great but has that lower right front
of the motor rattle that comes from looking at the t-belt. It also has
intermittent rattly clanks from the lifters - which I opted not to
replace. Both noises come and go and I don't consider them to be a big
deal at all. My reward for all of this?
I just got laid off from
micron (go ahead - ask me what I think about rewarding CEOs 10s of
millions of dollars to drive companies into the ground while never turning
a profit) and in the process of searching for a new job, I pull up to a
prospective hiring managers house in a cloud of expensive power steering
oil smoke. If I could drop kick this thing, it would be in flying over the
moon right now.
Add to that, I just rebuilt my Vespa motor and
it is blown up again - for the second time - and it looks like both times
the root cause was defective pistons. The first time the little pins that
keep the rings from rotating (two stroke motor thing) were pressed in too
far so the rings did rotate and it ate itself up. Next piston/cylinder set
destroyed because piston pin snap ring somehow broke or fell out and
destroyed itself. This crap all comes from India - which ironically is
where my software job just went.
I would just drive the old
reliable but somewhat ugly 83 Ranger - but it is so hot now (over 100
every day) that just walking to the car builds up a sweat. Not exactly
putting your best smell forward for an interview if you know what I mean.
I really need a car with A/C.
