Why would I follow the belt removal procedure when I wanted to do the alt?!  
Some time I can not see the forrest for the trees!  I suspect an amalgam of 
the procedures will ber attempted on reinstall sometime tomorrow.  Ron's 2 
cents re removing the fans makes all the sense as it'll sure make access to 
the front bolt MUCH easier.  Basically they have to carve a nitch in the 
surrounding mount so a socket could fit, no wat to get a wrench on it.
