... it is very easy to splice in a wired cigarette lighter socket behind the console and have it hang out near the passenger side footwell. Radio Shack has cigarette lighter "T" units that give you enough parts to do two cars.
I was sitting in a parking lot waiting one recent sunny day ... sitting in #2. I'm not sure why, but I decided I was going to remove the cover for the sunroof motor ... I guess I was contemplating removing the hands free phone microphone clipped there ... anyways ... I open the cover up and find a little electronic box and wiring spliced up in there. As best I can tell a PO spliced in a radar detector to the power for the sunroof and ran the power wires out to the windshield under the headliner. When I looked real closely I could see the stub of the wires poking out of the leading edge of the headliner. If you want a permanent fitment, that might be a good spot.
When I go on trips I need several power ports for GPS, iPod, phone, DVD for the kid in the back ... I've got a semi permanent setup ... here again, a Radio Shack item. I found a surge protected 3 outlet module for sale some time back. Checked on line ... Catalog #: 270-1561 is very similar. I found the hardware nestles in very securely between the driver's seat and the console ... making it almost invisible to see from outside, and convenient from inside. I currently plug the thing into the socket on the console because I'd hate to wear the battery down from the LED ... some day I'm going to open it up and remove the LED, which would let me keep it plugged in at all times. At that point I could splice in another socket under the console as noted earlier ...
