I got to drive my first electric car the other day. Power delivery was
superior to internal combustion engines used in the application and range
was sufficient.
.... the car was an electric powered cart in an indoor racing cart ... and
the range was 14 laps ... :-)
We were in southern California for family business and I saw the indoor
racing facility as I was driving around in Corona. Took the daughter for
her first chance to drive a vehicle that had a good power to weight ratio in
that sort of facility. I've driven the same carts with internal combustion
motors ... always hated the wait for the centrifugal clutch to kick in ...
the electric motors come on right away ...

I am sure the electric only vehicle will be the standard for urban
driving in many areas, but heating and air conditioning are still a
big problem because of the energy requirements. I am keeping my
fingers crossed for a hydrogen car. To me it is the only solution
for long distance and or heavy loads. I need a vehicle that can pull
into a service station, and leave within 10 minutes with at least 200
miles of range.
