[V8] heads up! heads off!

I did that several years ago Peter. It seemed to help a little, but
the real problem with the early 3.6L motors appears to be rings.
They are weak, or have a poorly designed oil ring or something like
that. I replaced my rings about 1.5 years ago (with Teves) and the
motor has been running great with no blue smoke at all.
FYI, you can not get bearings for this motor (at least I could not
find any) so I re-used my old rod bearings and did not remove the
crank main bearings. The machine shop thought this was crazy, but
they followed my instructions and it seems to have worked out OK.
btw, the rod bolts are the stretch type - and you can get
replacements for them. They also fit the VR6 motor. I used the
torque specs for that motor.
