Tony!.....Once again you pull out a simple solution to what seemed
like a complex problem. I always hated the "single serpentine belt",
and wondered what would happen when my compressor finally failed(as I
only run the AC once a week to circulate the oil to keep the system
"lubed up", but never actually use it ). When time allows, I'm going
to pull the belt on the Lago car....measure the distance without
AC....and find a belt and verify it works....then it's living in the
trunk(s). The old Saab's have 3 belts,2 run the alternator/water
pump, third runs the power steering and is longer....and yes I did
have one of the alternator belts break in the middle of nowhere CO,
and only noticed it when I heard it go, but just went down the road
with 1till I found a belt,(always carried a spare steering one in the
trunk also).....I figured if my AC on the V8 seized in Winnemucca,
I'd be spending a week there, and even a used pump is going to cost $$
$ with the refill etc....Can the climate control work without the AC
working?(always wondered that as I'd be tempted to disable it if mine
went). Not that anyone is going to enjoy putting a belt on in the
middle of winter off I-80(or many parts of the country now for that
matter), but if it gets you moving....awsome. Thanks again for yet
another thing I wouldn't have even thought about...Sincerely Tom
