[V8] Lifter tick

Thanks for the advice so far.  I ran a qt of ATF for about 500 miles.  Also, I was thinking that the retention valve was on the output of the oil circuit to the lifters - thus creating backpressure for the lifters.  At idle the pressure drops to 2 bar and I was thinking that it wasn't enough to keep them 'pumped up'.  But that was just what I was thinking - no fact to back it up.  I really like the idea of cleaning the lifters.  I have another engine that I could clean the lifters on then do the whole job in a night!  I have done valve stem seals, so I'm no stranger to getting those buggers out.  Thanks for the replies, any other BTDT?
