I'm still looking for this nice write-up with pictures from mx6.com on
cleaning HLAs. Its pretty easy. What the ticking issue is caused by is
varnish on the 'cylinder' walls of an HLA, so the center section with ball
and spring is no longer able to reciprocate fast enough, and so it gets
lagged down by the varnish, gunk, and oil buildup. There is rarely if ever
any dammage to the actual steel parts or the spring, they are all made out
of very strong steel, and because of the hydraulic assembly in them aren't
really a wear part, or under a ton of stress. Just the tops can get beat up
after a few hundered thousands.
Aha! I found it, of course it was in the stickies... So, here ye be. Just
read this whole first page of the thread, should give you a good idea of
what to do. Just take a deep breath before this big adventure... haha.
