In looking through the MG thread Ingo sent, Nate indicated he planned on
using individual coil packs. I'm still reading through that thread, but it
looks somewhat promising. At least you know that it seems to have been
attempted on a V8, and who did it.

ignition systems, or commonly known as COPs.

Thoughts, ideas, etc?  Can't find much in the archives either.
