Okay, so here's the deal: When I worked for VW as a rep in the NJ market I took a trip to Germany (Wolfsburg) and Slovakia (Toureg assembly plant) to learn about the Touareg before we launched it here in the states. I was part of a group of technical experts whose job it was to keep VWs in a good state of repair, lest we buy them back under the US Lemon Law regs.
Anyway, while in Europe for this three week stint, one weekend a few of us decided to take a ride to Dresden to see the Phaeton plant.
The Phaeton is a VW luxury car that failed here in the US market for two reasons: quality issues and price
How they figured that Americans would pay close to 100 Grand for any vehicle with a VW logo on it is beyond me, but that's not the point.
The point is, have a look at this video to see the Dresden assembly plant, and what VW has done with this revolutionary concept! It is truly amazing, and as just one point to ponder: who wouldn't want to work in an atmosphere like this, and in doing so the sheer magnificence of it all naturally inspires one to go beyond the norm and produce exemplary results! We humans call it pride!
While VW has had it's share of quality issues, and the Phaetons were more engineering design flaws than assembly issues, I think the worst years are truly behind them, and more importantly, realizing concepts like this shows their commitment to quality: Bravo VW/Audi!
