[V8] Parts & Advice

Shokan ... now there's a name I haven't heard in a while! I know that they
have been in business a very long time ... I bought some parts for my urq
there back when, but I must say that for me they would be one of the last
places I'd look today. In fact, thinking of the fact that operations like
Bruce McGuire's fails while Shokan continues on bothers me. I would also be
wary of the fact that Shokan is located in an area where the cars suffer
harsh winters. Shokan appears to have found a niche where they can succeed,
but as far as I know they do little more to support their customers with
parts at what they consider to be market value.

I would recommend investigating other sources as well. Force 5
(force5auto.com) is also located back east, but Chris Semple has been a long
time supporter of Audi fans and is one of my first choices for used parts.
Scott Mockry (sjmautotechnik.com) is one of the biggest contributors of
troubleshooting info for the DIYers, he offers new parts for reasonable
prices. While I'm not the biggest fan of Blau, I'd probably shop there
before I'd go looking at Shokan ...

... as to the comment about parts prices from and to others ... just because
you see Shokan asking a certain amount for a part doesn't mean that is what
anyone is going to pay for it. Yes, you may eventually get your new asking
price, but it may take a long time ... and until then you will have that
part taking up space in your garage. Hey, I fully understand your position
... I have a brand new set of Wiseco pistons for an I-5 turbo for a project
I'll never do which appear to be worth far less than I'm asking (which is
considerably less than I paid) ... but I've also made some deals for people
who need parts that I happen to have taking up space in the garage.

This is the consummate used Audi parts source.

http://shokan.com/

Haven't bought anything from them, don't know anyone there. Their prices
seem a bit high, but it looks like they do a great job dismantling Audis,
rating the part quality, and stocking the parts.

If nothing else it's worth shopping them to get an idea of what a given part
may be worth on the used market.

I almost fell into the trap of practically giving away a part from one of my
V8s, but realized it was better to let it sit than to be duped by someone
who thought he was going to take advantage, thinking I was uninformed.

Anyway, I'm sure there are other used parts sources, but if you can, another
good way to go is to pick up a complete car, if you have the time and space
to deal with it.

Just my two cents!

Thanks,
