[V8] speedo intermittant?

I guess it’s the usual Type 44 speedo issue. Occasionally my speedo doesn’t want to work immediately. The “fix” is to just smack the top of the dash with the flat of my hand, and it wakes up. My father’s ‘90 100 did the same thing with the same fix. Rarely when using the cruise control, the speedo will stop working and the cruise control will (naturally) disengage.

The cluster in my car has been out, the speedometer has been rebuilt and the cruise control was fixed the last time it was at the wrench, and most of the time, all works perfectly well. I was wondering if anyone has a REAL, permanent fix for the speedometer issue and if it is just a fault with the earlier V8’s? My ‘93 V8 had NO electrical issues in the cluster at all. The speedo issue I have no isn’t worth getting hysterical about at this point, since it works most of the time and even if it stops while underway, it normally restarts itself in a few seconds or after a little hand “encouragement”.

Comments?

Roger
