Belts age, they don't age well.
I have seen many cars with very few miles, but years from last timing
belt replacement. in my friends shop with broken timing Belt$$.
Many of them had sat in garages or were driven very little.
One was a very expensive Italian car which had 250 miles (and 8 years) on
the timing belt. Customer actually asked about warranty because of the
mileage....good one pal.
On the interference engines, I change them out at 5 or 6 years if the car
hasn't reached the designated mileage.
Relatively cheap insurance if you do your own wrenching. YMMV of course,
and I'm not up with the latest belt technology, but I suspect age is
still a consideration.
BCNU,
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.
