Hi,
You guys have helped me out as I worked to get my daughters diesel runni=
ng. Well I did, but no it isn't. The idler pulley that tightens up the =
timing belt the nut came off and the belt loosened.
I had changed the idler pulley and the new one was wider and I didn't =
have any threads showing outside the nut. I put it on and used lock tight=
. I started the car and was going to drive around the block with it for=
a test run. I got to the stop sign at the end of the street and the engi=
ne started roaring, then stalled at the stop sign. I restarted it and it s=
till roared. I thought great now it's the exhaust. I did a Uturn and drov=
e it back home. I shut it off in the garage. I looked around under the ca=
r so no obvious holes. I restared it and it idled fine. I lifted the hood =
and saw the timing belt wobbling. I hadn't put the guards back on yet. I t=
hen noticed the missing nut on the pulley. I shut the car off and went t=
o getting a different longer stud for the pulley and put the timing belt ba=
ck on. But now....when I put the flywheel to the TDC mark, and the #1 cyli=
nders lobes both up and the diesel pump set up on it's mark and tighten eve=
rything down....when I turn the motor over with a wrench something is hitti=
ng inside. I have tried this several times dead certain that I am indeed=
on TDC on the flywheel. Give me the bad news did I toast this engine.
Thanks
Dave
