Sounds about like the same level of effort I resorted to.  After totally rounding that bolt after several attempts over the years (at each timing belt change), I ended up FILING the bolt hex again, removing the oil pan, and wedging a piece of oak against the crank and block and using a 3 ft. cheater bar on a breaker bar.  That worked too.  (It was getting new rings anyway)
