A couple years ago I reported that I had a small coolant leak after
replacing the cylinder head (ring job) I could not locate because it was
hidden behind the back pump cover. Alumaseal stopped the leak. I thought
I messed up putting the head gasket back on. Well this weekend I
discvered the block was cracked where the thinngy that the timing belt
cover bolts to threads into the block. That's where it was leaking. See
photo I posed on Yahoo Audi-VW Diesel list. Also, the injection pump
seal was real hard and brittle, so that's why the pump shaft was
leaking. Its not the bushing (worn) always. Always use an engine stand
to mount the block to. It makes it a joy to install everything.
