There's a hose between the aluminum elbow to intake connection and the
injector pump. ('88 is NOT an eco is it guys?) Make sure it's connected.
If the turbo wasn't working you'd likely have some bad noises from it or a
lot of oil usage. You can simply pull off either the intake hose or the
rubber elbow from the turbo and watch the intake side to see if it's spinning
or feel the outlet side for pressure, while pulling on the throttle lever.
Engine running of course. ;-)
Be sure you use a DIESEL RATED oil. Most any 15W/40 will guarantee
that.
Check your air filter, watch your mirror for any noticeable smoke and
note the color and if it's just smoke or a huge cloud. There's more you
can do but you have to eliminate a few obvious things first. It should do
0- 60mph in about 14 seconds but start pulling nicely about half way
through the rpm range. It might be a good idea to do a new fuel filter too.
