Also wanted to mention that the way mine is set up, I can isolate one battery (or the other) with the flip of a switch to make
it into a single battery system. Also works as a self-jumpstart feature, in that you can bring in the 2nd battery if the 1st
one is dead. I've done this more time than I can remember.
