[Vwdiesel] trans seals

i noticed that one of the seals behind the cv joint is poking out. at least
i think its a seal, its bright green in color. its between the cv and the
trans. passenger side. should this be pressed into the trans case tight so
it doesn;t protrude? bently doesn;t show a good picture.

is this the seal folks say works its way out over time?

as far as driving it back in, do i need to unbolt the stub axle to get it
back in? any dirty tricks?
